Thank you for sharing with us this beautiful tribute and some of the memories you’ve had with your dad.
There is much love in these words and I’m sure he has been so proud of you, the legacy you’ve continued, and also what you’ve built.
Your dad seemed like a wonderful, passionate, forward thinking man who deeply valued fairness, community, and access. I have always felt tidyverse encompasses these values. You’re doing a great job.
Thank you for sharing memories of your dad and his influence on who you are today. It certainly resonates with me and my dad. What a wonderful and sweet way to honor him.
My condolences, Hadley. I lost my dad to cancer 16 years ago but still feel his presence through enduring memories of what made him special. It sounds like your dad was an admirable person and I'm sure it will be the same for you. He must have been very proud of you.
Your dad sounds like he was an awesome fella, and I’m grateful for the influence he had on you and on the open source community through you. I’m sorry for your loss – that really stinks. Sending you and your wonderful family lots of love through this unimaginably challenging time. 🫶🏻
I did not realise he was your father. I had the great pleasure of meeting him in Dublin at a meeting on animal genetics and he kindly gave me a lift to a dinner afterwards. Lovely man who wore his eminence very lightly. Sorry for your loss.
Sounds like your dad was a real man of virtue, and that he had a real impact on the world - both through his own work, and through the education and accomplishments of his children 🙏
I did my PhD in bioinformatics and genomics in cattle breeding with Teagasc, the Irish government farm advisory authority. I was equally guided by your father's work, and your own work. I never knew you were father and son. The revelation many years later is completely unsurprising. Suaimhneas síoraí air - may he rest in peace.
My condolences Hadley. I remember us talking about your Dad walking back to the hotel, from that conversation and your post he seems like a very wonderful and interesting person, I would have loved to have met him.
I hope you and Charlotte were able to spend as much time as you could with him and wish you the best.
I am so sorry for your loss Hadley. Your dad sounds like an amazing person and dad. Reminds me that I need to have “the talk” about backups with my two teenage boys. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Your Dad sounds awesome. I'm sorry for your loss. Maybe you could invent a version of ggplot called Brian in his honour.
